Thomas M. Hanna joined The Democracy Collaborative in 2010 as a research assistant. He received his M.A. and B.A. degrees in History from Virginia Commonwealth University. His areas of expertise include public ownership, privatization, energy, land and housing, and banking, among others. He has published articles in popular and academic journals including The New York Times, The Nation, Truthout, Yes! Magazine, Alternet, OpenDemocracy, and The Good Society and has provided research support for multiple Democracy Collaborative and Next System Project reports. Thomas has done substantial research and writing about community land trusts and other strategies for combating displacement and ensuring community stability. He is currently (2016) supervising a new Democracy Collaborative report on these issues.
