Olivia Williams, BS
Doctoral student, Department of Geography, Florida State University
Olivia has a bachelor’s degree in Geography and is currently pursuing a PhD in geography as well. Her dissertation will examine the governance structure of CLTs, determining residents’ degree of involvement in CLT governance and affairs, and conflicts of interests on CLT boards. This analysis will be done in order to begin to understand whether CLTs allow for imbalances in power historically evident in most community development initiatives, or offer a new model for increased local autonomy. Alongside CLTs, she is interested in studying other community economies that experiment with communal ownership of assets, democratic decision-making, caring relationships between members and/or respect for environmental impacts.
