John Emmeus Davis, PhD

John Emmeus Davis has been assisting and researching community land trusts and other forms of shared equity homeownership for over 30 years. He was a co-founder of Burlington Associates in Community Development in 1993, a national consulting cooperative that has provided technical assistance to nearly 100 CLTs, new and old. Previously, he was the city’s housing director in Burlington, Vermont and served on the staff of the Institute for Community Economics. He helped to establish the National CLT Academy in 2006 and served from 2009 to 2012 as the Academy’s dean. He is a graduate of Vanderbilt University and Cornell University, holding an MS and PhD from the latter. His publications include The Community Land Trust Reader (2010), Lands in Trust, Homes That Last (2009), The City-CLT Partnership (20008), Shared Equity Homeownership (2006), The Affordable City (1994), Contested Ground (1991), and The Community Land Trust Handbook (1982).
